Curtin University Building 105

Mar | 2014

The interiors team at CHRISTOU have completed the fitout and refurbishment of Curtin University’s Teaching and Learning Office in B105.

The project was a continuation of CHRISTOU’s working relationship with the University, following our reviewal of the professional staff accommodation across the campus and our development of Curtin’s Workspace Planning Guidelines. CHRISTOU also completed the B103 refurbishment in early 2013.

The scope of work included:

  • the re-design of the workplace to accommodate increased staff numbers and to reflect the organisational structure of the Office of Department of Vice Chancellor of Education.
  • internal planning in accordance with the Curtin Workspace Planning Principles including use of the Curtin Workspace modules, and the upgrade of base building services infrastructure.

The aim was to provide collaborative, flexible and well serviced office accommodation to reflect the University’s transformational aspirations for professional and academic staff workspaces and to promote a contemporary work culture.

CHRISTOU removed all private fully enclosed offices, with all staff accommodated within an open environment, supported by quiet retreat rooms, meeting rooms and informal collaborative spaces, incorporating sophisticated audio visual and video conferencing solutions.

CHRISTOU used modular workspace furniture to create a flexible design that can be changed with minimal disruption and cost in the future.

Level 1 of the building is a semi underground space affectionately labelled the “bunker” by the user group. The space had very limited access to natural light or external views with the exception of a small pre-existing courtyard at the northern end of the building.

The courtyard was the inspiration for the interior design which has a greenhouse theme. An internal vertical garden mirrors the courtyard at the southern end of the open plan office.

The user group are positive advocates for the project and the University’s new initiatives for Workplace design.
