Scarborough Beach Pool Takes Home Awards

Jul | 2018

Last Friday night Scarborough Beach Pool was recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects as delivering design excellence at both the urban design and building level, taking home the prestigious John Septimus Roe Award for Urban Design as well as a Commendation for Commercial Architecture.

+ WINNER | John Septimus Roe Award for Urban Design "Scarborough Beach Pool provides a new urban beach condition for Perth... The public realm is enhanced through the exceptional resolution of uses, spaces, levels, technical requirements, services and views." AIA Jury Comments

+ COMMENDATION | Commercial Architecture "This striking piece of coastal architecture powerfully identifies its place in the landscape... This is another example of a clever design strategy overcoming potential roadblocks. Architecture, amenity and delight!" AIA jury comments

These awards would not have been possible without the support and vision of our client, The City of Stirling, we thank you for trusting us with this beautiful piece of coastline.

We also acknowledge the significant effort of the project team, NS Projects, Plan E, Pritchard Francis, ETC, WSP, Full Circle Design Services, JMG, Strategic Fire, NDY, and AECOM. The commitment of the contractor Cooper & Oxley also played a major role in this outcome. The project involved close collaboration with TCL and the MRA through the delivery of the foreshore masterplan and we enjoyed working with this team on this transformative project.

Perhaps our greatest accolade for the project however, is the support it has received from the public. Always our toughest critic and the reason we are so passionate about what we do. Thank you for supporting this great development and the vision of our client, The City of Stirling.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved in this project. The John Septimus Roe Award is something to be proud of, recognising Scarborough Beach Pool as the best urban design project in the state
