Christou were awarded The Westin Margaret River Resort + Spa project following a design competition. The project is planned to deliver hotel rooms, pools, kid’s play, community park, lobby café and wine bar, restaurant, spa and wellness facility, and function centre for weddings and events.

The design is oriented to capture the rugged outlook over the Indian Ocean. The building is limited to a height of 7m across the entire site, which presents a significant challenge. This major constraint has been turned to opportunity, resulting in an architectural response that is responsive to its context, creating a low slung hotel with ocean outlooks for the majority of the hotel rooms and guest facilities as well as unimpeded views maintained for surrounding residents.

The design merges the resort with the topography of the site and embraces the landscape, capturing ocean views and retaining native flora to curate an authentic experience within nature that is synonymous with the south-west. The project will be the first 5 star resort within the Margaret River Region. The design seeks to use sustainable, locally sourced materials to support and reflect the region.
